51st Kansai Aikido Competition – Sunday, November 15th, 2026.
We are pleased to announce the 51st Kansai Aikido Competition, as outlined below. We encourage everyone to participate.
Date/Time: Sunday, November 15, 2026; 9:30 AM – approx. 4:00 PM
Venue: Abeno Sports Center
5-minute walk south along the Hankai Line from Tennoji Station (Osaka Metro Midosuji Line) (behind Abeno Belta)
1-minute walk from Exit 7 of Abeno Station on the Tanimachi Line.
Participation Fee: The fee below applies regardless of the number of events entered (includes accident insurance).
Adults (Non-students): 3,500 yen
Students / Participants from outside the Kansai region: 3,000 yen
• The insurance for this competition is separate from the coverage held by Shodokan. Please get in touch with the Shodokan Honbu Office with questions or for details.
Because the insurance coverage provided may be insufficient in some situations, we recommend obtaining additional personal coverage if needed.
• Lunch bento boxes will be available for order at an estimated cost of 700 yen. Please indicate this on the entry form.
Note: If you wish to order a bento for the day of the event, please indicate this on the entry form. A separate fee of 700 yen applies to the bento. Additionally, please take any trash you generate within the facility home with you.

[Important Notes]
■ Eligibility: Practitioners of junior high school age or older.
■ Mixed Team Competition by Category:
Abe Cup: Entries limited to non-dan holders (mudan) only.
Uchiyama Cup: Entries limited to dan holders (yudan) only.
■ Tantō Randori Competition: Generally limited to dan holders only.
(*Non-dan holders wishing to participate should consult Headquarters in advance.)
■ General (Non-student) Entry Categories: Abe Cup, Uchiyama Cup, Embu (Demonstration) Competition, Randori Competition.
■ Student Entry Categories: Abe Cup (1 team per school), Uchiyama Cup (1 team per school), Embu Competition (1 pair per class per school), Tantō Randori Competition Individual (up to 2 male and 2 female competitors per school; 4th-year students are excluded from this count).
■ Other: Combined teams are permitted for Mixed Team Competitions if a group lacks sufficient members.

51st Kansai Aikido Competition – Event Categories
A. Mixed Team Competition by Category
Abe Cup (Non-dan Division)
1. Zagi (Seated Techniques): Shomen-uchi, Oshi-taoshi, Osae (Omote, Left/Right & Ura, Left/Right) – 4 techniques total.
2. Atemi Techniques (Unarmed): 5 techniques selected from the 17 Basic Techniques.
3. Elbow Techniques: 6 techniques selected from the 19 General Basic Techniques.
4. Women’s Tantō Tai-sabaki (Body Movement) Competition.
5. Tantō Randori Embu Competition: 45 seconds.
(Perform *hikitate-geiko*—a practice drill usually done in regular training—as a demonstration. No switching of roles between *tori* and *uke*; 45-second duration.)
* Entries should generally consist of 7 or more participants.
* A single competitor may participate in up to 2 categories.
* A competitor cannot participate as *tori* in more than one of categories 1, 2, 3, or 5. *Competitors participating in event 4 cannot also compete in events 1, 2, 3, or 5 in the role of *tori* (attacker/executor).
Uchiyama Cup (Generally for *dan*-ranked practitioners and above)
1. *Koryū Goshin no Kata* (Traditional Self-Defense Forms): 8 techniques (Seated to half-seated/half-standing techniques)
2. *Koryū Goshin no Kata* (Traditional Self-Defense Forms): 8 techniques (Unarmed standing techniques)
3. *Tantō* (Short Sword) Body Movement Competition (Women)
4. Unarmed *Randori* (Free Sparring) Competition (Men)
5. *Tantō* (Short Sword) *Randori* (Free Sparring) Competition (Men)
*Competitors cannot participate in both events 1 and 2 as *tori*, nor can they participate in both events 4 and 5.
*Competitors who participate in events 1 or 2 as *tori* cannot participate in events 3, 4, or 5.
*As a general rule, entries should consist of 5 or more participants.
B Demonstration Competition
1. Beginner Division (Unranked to 6th Kyū)
Unarmed free-style techniques: 6 techniques (Roles of *uke* and *tori* must be swapped every 3 techniques)
2. Intermediate/Advanced Division (5th Kyū to 1st Kyū)
Unarmed free-style techniques: 8 techniques (Roles of *uke* and *tori* may be swapped freely)
3. *Dan*-Ranked Division
Unarmed free-style techniques: Within 1 minute (Roles of *uke* and *tori* may be swapped freely)
4. Weapons Division (2nd *Dan* and above)
Qualifiers: *Koryū Goshin no Kata* – *Tachi-dori* (Sword-taking) 5 techniques
Finals: *Koryū Goshin no Kata* – *Kumi-tachi* (Paired sword forms) techniques 1, 4, 7, and 8
C *Tantō* (Short Sword) *Randori* Competition (Generally for *dan*-ranked practitioners and above)
1. Women’s *Tantō Randori* Individual Competition
2. Men’s *Tantō Randori* Individual Competition (Ueki Cup)
