SAF Update and Patreon Annoucement

We hope you are well in your home countries. There have been many ups and downs over this past year, and we have all done our best to weather the changing tides.

There has not been much to update this space with. The Japanese borders are still closed for the foreseeable future, meaning we are unable to welcome either short or long term international guests to our dojo. The SAF has kept the Japanese website up to date, however as we have no new information for international guests, we’ve avoided having to constantly post then retract information in this space.

Everybody has been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the SAF has been no exception. Income sources from competitions and seminars have disappeared, and while there are some government subsidies to assist, the fact remains that venues still expect to be reimbursed for cancelled events and there is only so far the SAF can stretch its resources.

To both offer the “Hombu” experience to our international audience and to try to replace the lost income, the SAF has launched a Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/shodokanaikidofederation). The goal of the SAF Patreon is to provide you with online learning resources while supporting the SAF. There are three tiers currently available:

  • Tier 1: $6.00 monthly. This is just to provide a small monthly donation to the SAF. In return, this tier has access to digitized photos and media from the SAF Archive.
  • Tier 2: $15.00 monthly. This tier has access to the digitized media, and offers weekly instructional videos and a monthly livestream.
  • Tier 3: $30.00 monthly. This tier includes T1 and T2 media, and adds monthly digital instruction from a senior SAF instructor. It also offers access to SAF Grading Syllabus instructional videos, which we are in the process of producing. 8th, 7th, and 6th kyu are already available.

We hope you will consider supporting the SAF through the SAF Patreon page. We also look forward to a time when we can welcome  you all in person here in Osaka, Japan.
